      Burke King is President & General Manager for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia. He is responsible for the management of all employer health insurance business in Virginia including sales, account service, marketing, and underwriting, as well as for maintaining customer relationships.  In addition, he is involved in corporate strategy planning and execution, and serves as the primary contact for state regulators to ensure compliance and manage any state-related matters.  Burke has a leadership role in Anthem's social responsibility activities, continuing the company's commitment to the communities it serves across the Commonwealth.

     Burke joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia in 1992.  Prior to his current position, he had responsibility for WellPoint, Inc.'s Individual business product management, product development and segment innovation.  WellPoint is the parent company of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  He has previously served as vice president, Virginia Individual, Senior and Small Group Markets; vice president, Physician Network Management and president of the company's Virginia health maintenance organizations.

     Burke serves as the Chairman of the Virginia Association of Health Plans.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Richmond-Metro American Heart Association.  He holds degrees from Hampden-Sydney College (BA, Economics and French) and The College of William and Mary (MBA).
